Today, I’m excited to introduce you to Life in Motion Family Wellness Center,

TELL US WHO YOU ARE & WHAT YOU DO.
My name is Katie Keller Riney. I am a family nurse practitioner since 2013. I have worked in family practice for 12 years. I was an emergency room nurse before this at Deaconess Hospital. I opened my own practice in 2021 in Newburgh & moved my practice to a new location and opened the Life in Motion Family Wellness Center in 2023. We provide family practice to over 3500 patients & also have 2 mental health nurse practitioners, 4 counselors & a womens health provider. I am a professional speaker in several disease states and love educating other providers on the ways in which to best treat their patients. I am the medical director for Honor Flight of Southern Indiana & the treasurer of Andersen's PTO at Marrs Elementary School.
WHO DO YOU LOVE TO SERVE?
I love family practice. I tell people I take care of everyone from birth to death. There is not a typical patient I enjoy seeing in particular but I seem to have a lot of patients between the ages of 25 to 60.
HOW DID YOU BUSINESS GET STARTED?
I was placed in a situation where I was able to start my own practice in Newburgh renting from another facility until I gained the patients and capital to be able to purchase my own building. I made a list of task I wanted to complete by the age of 40 whenever I was 18 and graduated from high school and one of those tasks was to own my own practice and I achieved that in 2021 at the age of 39.
WHAT IS SOMETHING UNIQUE ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS?
We have exceptional staff members and providers that are very patient centered and patient focused. We give top-notch care to all of our patients and truly care about the overall health and wellness of our patients. We don't consider our patients as just a number, we treat them like they are our family.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WHAT YOU DO?
I love the fact that I get to interact with people of all different ages and social, economic backgrounds! I have a lot of complicated patients that have went to several providers seeking answers and I enjoy being able to do the research and give them answers. I think the thing that gives me the most job satisfaction is the fact that my patients feel like they are listened to and get the answers that they have been wanting. I also try to get them feeling better quickly.
WHAT'S ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU'D GIVE SOMEONE JUST STARTING OUT?
I have taught several nurse practitioners and counselors on how to open their own practice and my biggest piece of advice to each one of them is to put the proper people in the proper location within your business. You have to have faith in the people that are answering the phones all the way to the nursing staff. You also have to have a good bookkeeper, Cpa, banker, financial manager, and a good friend to talk to when things get rough.
WHAT HAS BEEN A PROUD MOMENT FOR YOU IN BUSINESS?
The proudest moment I have had after opening the Life In Motion family wellness center was seeing over 75 people come to support me at our ribbon-cutting. The second was we did the Christmas parade in Evansville and had over 50 people walk with our float and pass out candy to the people Of Evansville. The community support, family support, and friends support I have received throughout. This journey has been absolutely amazing.
WHAT'S SOMETHING ABOUT YOU PEOPLE MIGHT NOT EXPECT?
I am the face of the Life In Motion family wellness center but most people don't consider the background stuff that my son and my husband both do for the business and also our home life. My husband takes care of all of our animals and also has been instrumental in the updating of the facility. Most people think I am the person that has decorated and put the aesthetic touches on the office and it was actually Tobin. I do not have a decorative bone in my body.
WHAT'S ONE THING THAT KEEPS YOU INSPIRED?
My son is the thing that keeps me the most inspired. He told me a few weeks ago, his goal in life is to be more successful than I have been, and that gave me a lot of pride because I know that he sees the effort and the importance of what I do on a daily basis.
HOW CAN PEOPLE SUPPORT YOUR BUSINESS RIGHT NOW?
They can support Life In Motion family wellness center by making an appointment with either the family practice, women's health or mental health providers. I think keeping small businesses, afloat and small practices afloat is key to a good community.

WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW?
I have amazing staff members and renters at the Life In Motion family wellness center that have helped to build this into one of the most successful medical offices, providing services to the residence of Evansville and the surrounding counties. I could not have achieved what I have achieved in my life with this practice without the help of my employees. They put just as much time, energy, and effort into the success of this practice as I do. Organization is not a strong suit for me due to my ADHD, but they help me stay focused, task, oriented, and up-to-date on everything needed to maintain a successful business.
